Tainui eyes Tauranga hotel option

Tainui Group Holdings is the preferred bidder to build an internationally-branded hotel in Tauranga.
Tauranga City Council has given a Tainui-led consortium three months do due diligence on the project, which is on council-owned land opposite Baycourt.
Tainui and hotel operator Accor planned to build a four star Novotel Hotel on the site five years ago, but the project fell over in the global financial crisis of 2008.
Tainui Group CEO Mike Pohio was not available for comment today.
Tainui and Accor have developed two hotels in Hamilton and the Auckland Airport Novotel.
