Members of South Taranaki's Ngā Rauru iwi are now much more familiar with their awa.
Twenty six of them have just finished a journey down the Waitotara River, stopping at marae on the way for wānanga on tribal history, whakapapa and the tribe’s treaty settlement.
Mike Neho, the iwi development kaiārahi, says the hikoi was part of a wider programme Te Toi Ahurea, which is about getting tribal members to come back and participate.
Also as part of the programme, Ngā Rauru will hold its first cultural festival in Waverly in March.
