She may be remembered as the mother of a great rugby family, but Mary Going also made a mark on her own account in Northland.
Mrs Going, nee Paki, died yesterday at her home in Maromaku aged 105.
Relative Winston Peters says she played an important role in her community as well as helping run the family farm.
He says her guidance helped her sons Sid and Ken become All Blacks and, along with a third son Brian, Māori All Blacks.
Mary Going’s funeral service will held at noon on Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel in Maromaku.
