IronMāori confirms Taranaki event

Taranaki is gearing up for its first IronMāori event in March or April.
Howie Tamati from Sport Taranaki says the province is buzzing about being included in the expansion of the popular event, which was started by Hawkes bay woman Heather Skipworth.
He expects the limit of 500 participants to be met quickly from the 'taster' event at Waitara, which includes a 500 metre swim, a 15 kilometre bike ride and a 5km walk or run.
“IronMāori I think everybody knows, it’s not about the prime athletes, it’s about getting our people moving and to the ones who would like to have a go, but in an environment that safe and supportive. That’s what I like about the kaupapa, it’s about whānau, it’s about our families, coming together and participating. They can participate as teams or as individuals”.
IronMāori organisers are also planning an event on Australia's Gold Coast in June, a Duathlon in Wellington in September and the quarter and full IronMāori in Napier in November and December.
