Greens co-leader Metiria Turei has identified education, poverty and housing as the most important issues for Māori voters this year.
Ms Turei says John Key’s opening speech to parliament yesterday, in which he spent almost half his time attacking the opposition parties, shows the Government has run out of ideas and is feeling the pressure.
She says policies which fail to deliver healthy and affordable housing is affecting the education of many Māori children.
"It is still the core to our development as a Māori nation. It is still the core to our ability for us to achieve tino rangatiratanga, for us to increase our wealth so our families are always well. It’s the answer to bringing our kids back from Australia. We need to have those basics here for them so they can live a decent life here," Ms Turei says.
