Ka Mau Te Wehi tells spectacular story
Ka Mau Te Wehi – Taking Haka to the World, Bub and Nen's story, is the title of a new book to be launched at a spectacular celebration this weekend.
It tells the story of Ngapo and the late Pimia Wehi, founders of four time Te Matatini winners Te Waka Huia – who will be performing along with associate group Te Manu Huia at a fundraising variety conference at the Beaumont Centre in Auckland.
Biographer Brad Haami, who was asked to write the story after Nen died two years ago says it has been a real honour.
"So it was enjoyable for me just getting to know Bub and his family a lot more. A lot of us know them from their public face as Te Waka Huia, but to sit in their presence and get detailed on their lives and their personal views has been amazing really," he says.
The big market for the book is expected to be the kapa haka fans that will flock to Te Matatini next month.
The launch and concert is at the Beaumont Centre, 98 Beaumont St in Auckland from 6pm on Sunday, 27th of January.
