Primary teachers union NZEI Te Riu Roa is urging MP to support Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira bill to feed children in low decile schools.
Acting National Secretary Laures Park says members working in schools know that providing breakfasts and lunches in decile 1 and 2 schools will help lift the achievement of children living in poverty.
She says children who are fed are more ready to learn.
Ms Parks says many younger children in early childhood education would also benefit from such a programme.
