Former Fisheries CEO heads Innovation Board
Former Aotearoa Fisheries chair Robin Hapi of Ngāti Kahungunu has been appointed to the eight-member board overseeing Callaghan Innovation, the new Crown entity that is supposed to connect New Zealand firms with science, engineering and technology expertise.
Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce says the aim is to drive the innovation and commercialisation of products and services.
The board will be chaired by Sue Suckling, who is currently chairing the establishment board, with Industrial Research board member Richard Janes, Auckland Transport Director Paul Lockey and Australian Company Director Dr Michele Allan also moving across from the establishment board. Mr Hapi currently chairs Te Wānanga-ō-Raukawa, the Māori Statistics Advisory Committee and economics firm BERL, co-chairs Te Aute trust Board, and sits on the Tertiary Education Commission and the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Board. |
The other new members are Professor Peter Hunter from Auckland University and commercial entrepreneurs Sir Peter Maire and Craig Richardson.
