Horse trek binds whanau to whenua
Almost a hundred people from three Dannevirke whānau have saddled up for their annual horse trek.
The Pearse, Kingi and Paewai families have been riding in the event since 1980, with members coming together from as far away as Australia.
The youngest rider this year is six and the oldest 74.
Organisers say one of the draw cards is hearing Te Reo Māori spoken on the cross-country trails.
The trek goes from Dannevirke South to Puehutai Station at Otope and on to Owahanga Station on the coast for the annual horse sports over the weekend.
