Ngāti Haua faces up to P damage
Far north hapū Ngāti Haua is planning a whanau day on January 26 to reclaim their mountain Whakakoro.
The hapu met at Kotahitanga Marae in Whangape last week to discuss the impact on the community of a major police action against methamphetamine manufacturing.
Six baches in the isolated settlement were torched in what was seen as a warning against speaking out after three locals were arrested.
Police showed the hui a map of where seven meth lab sites were located on the maunga last year, and explained tell tale signs of production.
A statement from the hui said those present gave unanimous support to the reclaiming of Whakakoro and their tupuna lands at Whangape from those who chose to manufacture and supply methamphetamine.
It said all all investigations concerning the manufacture and supply of P, and the burning of the baches, would be left in the hands of the police.
