Hui-a-Iwi a circuit breaker for Tainui
King Tuheitia is trying to put recent in-fighting behind Tainui by calling a hui-ā -iwi at Turangawaewae Marae in February.
Tukoroirangi Morgan, the newly-appointed Kāhui Ariki representative on Tainui’s Te Ara Taura executive, says it will be a hugely important hui where all the tribe’s members will have a chance to have a say about its future direction.
“It is a circuit breaker. It’s about trying to get past the disfunctionality that has wracked the tribe. The opportunity is there for use to unite in significant discussions to try to find a way forward through the auspices of the Kingitanga,” Mr Morgan says.
“We were an iwi before we were a corporation, so we can all come together to discuss this, Te Kauhanganui and everyone else,” he says.
