Whanganui health board to work closer with hauora

Whanganui District Health Board has signed an agreement with Hauora-ā-Iwi to work together on areas of need.
Hauora-a-Iwi chair Barbara Ball says a priority is antenatal and postnatal care of mothers and babies.
Māori health providers can help to ensure mothers are enrolled with a lead maternity carer, and after they've delivered their babies, they are linked to their doctors, Plunket, Tamariki Ora, Family Start, iwi health providers and their own whānau support.
The memorandum of understanding will link the Huarahi Oranga Māori Health Strategy and the hospital board's annual Māori Health Plan, and it will be reviewed every three years so each new health board can review the agreement and the relationship between the two parties.
