IronMāori reaches limit with record performances
Organisers of IronMāori say the half-ironman event was near capacity.
Almost 2100 athletes took part in the Napier event last weekend, 600 more than last year.
Director Heather Skipworth says the water was glassy, the road conditions were perfect for cycling, and the sun shone down on the run.
The fastest individual was 38-year-old Wellington Hospital radiographer Deano Gaskin, who completed the 2km swim, 90km bike ride and 21.1 km run in a record 4hrs 16min 1sec.
That was nearly 18 minutes ahead of the next fastest male, Dino Michalakis, from Napier.
His wife Natalie Gaskin was the fastest female home in a time of 4hrs 53min 32sec, 11 minutes ahead of Steph Anderson.
