A lawyer with extensive experience representing both the Crown and claimants before the Waitangi Tribunal has been appointed a temporary judge of the Māori Land Court for two years.
Māori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples says Michael Doogan's depth of knowledge will be of great value to the court.
He says the appointment is necessary because of the high workload of the court and Waitangi Tribunal, where judges also serve as presiding officers.
