Leadership stoush overshadows conference
Labour's Māori spokesperson says he's backing leader David Shearer to win the election in 2014.
The party's conference over the weekend included vigorous debate about a new constitution that allows ordinary members and union affiliates to have a say in choosing the leader.
That led to speculation that New Lynn MP David Cunliffe was preparing a challenge under the new rules.
But Parekura Horomia says talk over the leadership shouldn't be allowed to overshadow the major policy announcements that came out of the hui.
"Where I come from you follow the leader. When the leaders stuck, that's where you go and we intend to support our way forward. That was the greatest conference I’ve been to for a long time. Yesterday was a watershed. The rank and file have spoken strongly. Our housing policy and our employment-trade training policy is tailor made for all the agony that our people are feeling now. We've got to get on with the business," Mr Horomia says.
