Two voyaging waka are nearing the halfway mark on the final leg to Rapanui Easter Island and expect to make landfall in early December.
In his latest weekly update, Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti captain Jack Thatcher reports his waka has come almost 500 nautical miles since leaving from Mangareva on November 7th.
It's struggling to keep up with Te Aurere, with the double hulled boats using their big sails to tack towards their destination.
He says heavy rains have replenished the water supply, so hot drinks are back on the menu.
