Labour's senior Māori spokesperson says party leader David Shearer should come out of this weekend's party conference with his support a lot stronger.
Parekura Horomia says media speculation about a leadership coup is a beat-up.
He says Mr Shearer is showing a natural affinity with the party's Māori members, and he has spent a lot of time moving among people in far fund communities, much as former leader Helen Clark was able to do.
The Labour Party Conference starts in Auckland tomorrow night.
