Self determination shares aim for indigenous broadcasters
Māori broadcaster and educationalist Ella Henry has been in Australia, talking to the Australian Indigenous Communications Association Conference about First Nations Media in the Digital Age.
She says Aboriginal broadcasters have followed a similar track to Māori, with shoestring radio operations bringing many communities together.
They also look to the expertise Māori have built up in television and film production and management.
"In many ways we've run a parallel course and we also want the same objectives. We want to create media that tell authentic stories, that empower people to feel good about ourselves and galvanise use to work towards self determination," Dr Henry says.
