Ngā Aho offers Māori view on Christchurch rebuild
Māori planners, architects and design professionals are meeting in Christchurch to discuss how they can contribute to the rebuilding of the city.
Haare Williams, the kaumatua of the network of Maori design professionals Ngā Aho, says today's symposium is in response to what seems like a real opportunity to introduce a Maori element into what is happening in Otautahi.
"Ngā Aho has stimulated and excited the community that there is another component to architecture, to landscape, and it's called kaitiakitanga and we need to put our stamp where it should be, the integrity of tikanga, the integrity of our story that relates to the environment, to the water an all of those things that go remiss," he says.
