Leadership refresh on Māori Party agenda
Māori Party Co-leader Pita Sharples won’t be looking for any major shifts in direction to come out of the party’s annual hui this weekend.
The hui is being held at Papawai Marae near Greytown, which was one of the homes of Te Kotahitanga parliament in the late 19th century.
Dr Sharples says the question of the co-leadership structure is on the agenda.
“I’m not supporting any change in the makeup of the leadership. It’s about whether there should be one (leader) or still a man and a woman and I prefer that and I think the party will probably stay with that but it’s up the them at the end of the day,” he says.
Dr Sharples says he’d prefer the question of rebranding the party be left until after the election.
