Maori stars for East Coast Waitangi Day show
Reggae heavyweights Katchafire, soulful singer Ria Hall and R & B sensation Pieter T are among the top Maori acts headlining the East Coast Vibes Roots festival in Gisborne on Waitangi Day.
Festival director Rob Coe-Tipene of Tolaga Bay is expecting up to 5000 people to trek to Gisborne’s Outdoor Theatre on Midway beach.
He says the organisers put together a mix of Aotearoa’s most loved roots, reggae, dub and R&B acts that epitomise the Coast’s laid back vibe so locals can celebrate Waitangi weekend, their diverse community and Bob Marley’s birthday.
Other acts include Cornerstone Roots, Sons of Zion, Darky Roots, Bella Kalolo, Chad Chambers and Wellington rock reggae band Vintage.
