Hui called to refocus Whanau Ora
The Minister for Whanau Ora is raising the idea of giving oversight for the programme to a non-government organisation.
Tariana Turia told a hui at Orakei Marae to launch Ngati Whatua’s Mai Whanau programme that she will call providers to a national hui in Wellington next month to discuss refocusing the programme, which attempts to integrate health, welfare and other government services.
She says when the scheme was set up Maori providers wanted greater autonomy.
Mrs Turia says there are three options: to leave oversight with Te Puni Kokiri; establish a new Crown entity; or move it to a non-government organization.
