The Maori Party says it won’t be voting for the Government’s lower minimum youth wage.
It says the proposed Starting Out wage, which allows employers to pay young people just $10.80 an hour for their first six months, is discriminatory,
The party has in the past voted against its coalition partner on the minimum wage.
It says the wage will incentivise employers to employ the cheapest form of labour and fails to address youth unemployment in which it may have significant negative impacts on Maori.
