Iwi line up for ki-o-rahi tournament
The organisers of the national ki-o-rahi tournament are pleased at the response they are getting from iwi round the country.
Jonnine Lai from Tuwharetoa Sports says six iwi have so far signed up for Saturday’s event at Turangi Park, with six men’s and three women’s teams competing.
She says its early days in the revival of the traditional Maori ball sport, which can be played in a full contact version with tacked, and the rippa non-contact version that is suitable for all ages.
Ms Lai says there is growing interest in ki-o-rahi by sports promotion groups around the country.
