It could be the last post for the 28th Maori Battalion.
Officials are considering the details of a ceremony to wind up the battalion association in December, to be led by Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae.
The association formed in 1958 and in recent years has held regular reunions, but member Matt Te Pou says there were now too few veterans alive for it to operate viably as a trust.
They make up only about 1 percent of the more than 3600 men and officers who served in the battalion from 1939 to 1945.
