Ngati Hinemihi to challenge tip consent

A Rotorua hapu is challenging tip consent for a refuse transfer station near their marae.
John Tapiata says Ngati Hinemihi has lodged an appeal to the Environment Court, with the backing of the Tuhourangi Tribal Authority.
Transpacific Industries Group New Zealand has consent to build a refuse transfer station on the site of former petrol station on Te Ngae Rd.
Mr Tapiata says the seven-day a week operation, which could bring up to 180 trucks a day, is close to the hapu’s mineral baths, urupa and marae.
He says Ngati Hinemihi feels proper notification was not given to all affected parties and a cultural impact assessment was not carried out by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, the Rotorua District Council, or Transpacific.
