New Zealand King Salmon has apologised to Ngati Koata for ignoring the iwi’s mana whenua over Pelorus Sound, where it wants to build more mussel farms.
The company has withdrawn a report it filed on iwi interests with the Environmental Protection Agency.
Ngati Koata Board member Hori Turi Elkington told the enquiry NZ King Salmon had got its inquiry the wrong way around.
The iwi is asking the EPA to only issue a 10-year rather than a 35 year consent because of potential damage from the farm.
