Turakina boarding school looking local

Turakina Maori Girls College is looking at recruiting more day girls.
Principal Terehia Channings says an encouraging report from the Education Review Office and community feedback indicates some of the problems besetting the school are now behind it, and it is time to expand.
Only two of the 80 students come from Marton.
Mrs Channings stopped interviewing for day pupils when she took up the job at the end of 2009.
She says a priority is to get the local community involved again, and having local students will help that.
