Otago University is celebrating a 23 percent increase in its Maori student enrolments over the past five years.
Vice-chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne told the annual national conference of Maori educators and students held in Dunedin that the university had 1600 Maori students enrolled, or 8.7 percent of the domestic student body.
That’s higher in percentage terms than Auckland University.
She says 350 Maori students graduated last year, including 90 with postgraduate qualifications.
