Number of Maori with NCEA rises
There has been a boost in the number of Maori leaving school with NCEA levels.
Education Minister Hekia Parata says the proportion getting NCEA level one or above went from 61.8 percent in 2009 to 68.6 percent last year.
Overall, 83.8 percent of all school leavers attained at least NCEA level one in 2011 and nearly 72 percent had got to level two.
The number of Maori getting NCEA Level 2 and above is now over 50 percent, compared with 44.3 percent in 2009.
Ms Parata says the Government aims to have 85 percent of 18 year-olds achieving NCEA Level 2 or an equivalent qualification by 2017.
