Whanau well being focus of league conference
Wahine Maori are on their way to Blenheim for the Maori Women’s Welfare League’s 60th annual conference.
More than 700 people are expected at Omaka Marae and the Marlborough Convention Centre for the hui.
President Kataraina O’Brien says the league has about 3000 registered members in eight regions.
She says this year’s focus on Te Mana O Te Whanau, supporting the well-being of the family and especially given the economic instability that has put many Maori breadwinners out of work.
The hui will also remember several significant members who have died, including then-national president Megan Joe and general manager Jacqui Te Kani.
