Hippolite picked to TPK top job
Te Papa acting business group director Michelle Hippolite has snared the top job in the Maori bureaucracy.
Ms Hippolite, from Waikato, Rongowhakaata and Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki, will take over from Leith Comer as Chief Executive of Te Puni Kokiri.
Before becoming the museum’s Maori leader, she had worked with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and as a contractor to other state agencies.
State Services Commissioner Ian Rennie says she has the policy and leadership skills to ensure the Ministry for Maori Development works collaboratively with Maori and public service agencies to produce policy advice on key areas for Maori development.
During her career, Ms Hippolite has provided policy advice on a range of issues affecting Maori, including economic development, Treaty settlements, the foreshore and seabed, social policy, Te Reo
Maori, fisheries and Maori broadcasting.
She starts the job in December.
