New Otago University research showing children living in poor households are more vulnerable to poor social and health outcomes are being cited as an example of the Government’s failure to address the country’s real problems.
Labour’s education spokesperson Nanaia Mahuta says the data, which comes out of the first seven years of a longitudinal survey, confirms that too many Kiwi kids are living in poverty.
She says far too many Maori and Pasifika children are affected by poverty and a sure sign in schools is kids not having lunch or unable to concentrate because they are hungry.
