Western Australia Maori Rugby League is aiming to get a team over to play in next month’s National Maori Rugby League tournament in Rotorua.
Former Kiwi Howie Tamati, who is heading over the Tasman for a fundraising dinner for the kaupapa, says with a large population of Maori in Perth, especially from Taranaki, it was inevitable they would eventually get a team together.
There are similar associations in the other states, as the large number of Maori living there love the game and also feel proud to be Maori and want to keep the connection with home.
