Stormy weather slows Waka Tapu trip
The Waka Tapu voyagers hope to reach Tubai in French Polynesia by the end of the week, after battling storms that have slowed down their easterly voyage across the Pacific.
Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti skipper Jack Thatcher says the boat has been pushing hard east before heading north, but has been checking its speed to stay close to the older Te Aurere.
Food supplies are getting low as the leg has taken longer expected, and the crews are looking forward to hitting land for hot showers, steaks and calls home.
After resupplying in Tubai the waka will head for Rapanui-Easter Island.
