Ngai Tahu denies charter school ambition
Meanwhile, Ngai Tahu denies it is supporting the establishment of a charter school in Christchurch.
Supporters of the city’s two kura kaupapa Maori say they are being forced to merge to make room for a Ngati Tahu-backed charter school.
But chair Mark Solomon says the Ngai Tahu Runanga doesn’t have enough information about the government’s plans for publicly-funded private schools to back the idea.
He says the iwi has not been consulted about the planner merger, and it backs the extension of Maori medium education in the city.
