MWWL past president Jacqui Te Kani dies
The Maori Women’s Welfare League has lost one of its wahine toa.
Jacqui Te Kani died on Tuesday night in Wellington Hospital.
Mrs Te Kani was league president from 1999 to 2002, and went on to create and occupy the position of the league’s general manager.
She was chair of broadcast funding agency Te Mangai Paho and served on a number of other organisations, including the Ministry of Women’s Affairs’ Te Korowai Wahine, the Maori Television electoral college Te Putahi Panoho, Te Huarahi Tika Maori Spectrum Trust, the Maori Education Trust, Sport and Recreation’s Te Roopu Manaaki and the Law Commission’s Maori advisory committee.
Maori Party co-leader says Mrs Te Kani served Aotearoa well and made every moment count.
She will lie at the Maori Women’s Welfare League’s Thorndon headquarters overnight before being taking back to Mangatu Marae northeast of Gisborne, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday Morning.
