Facilitator has plan to get north talking
Former Tainui claim negotiator Tukoroirangi Morgan says his report on the next steps towards settling historic claims in Northland will be in the hands of Minister of Treaty Negotiations next week.
Chris Finlayson brought Mr Morgan in as facilitator as he wrestled with a sharp debate on who should have the mandate to negotiate the claims.
Mr Morgan says after some early tensions he has had good input from Tuhoronuku, the claims body set up by Te Runanga o Ngapuhi, and the opposing hapu who come under the banner of Te Kotahitanga.
He says as his children are half Ngapuhi, he is glad to do something that will contribute to the future of their iwi.
