Rahui lifted after Paritutu tragedy
Taranaki hapu Ngati Te Whiti has lifted the rahui it placed after three men were swept to sea off New Plymouth’s Paritutu.
The ban covered recreational activities, picking shellfish and fishing other than commercial fishing.
Hapu chair Trent Martin lifted the rahui after all police and private searches were called off.
The body of Spotswood College student Felipe Melo from Brazil was found a few hundred metres from the rock almost two weeks after the trio went missing, but the bodies of fellow student Stephen Kahukaka-Gedye and outdoor pursuit’s instructor Bryce Jourdain are still missing.
