Web site up with water information
Meanwhile, Te Wai Maori Trust has created a web site giving background information on Maori rights and interests in fresh water.
Chairperson Ken Mair says the trust, which arose out of the Maori fisheries settlement, isn’t a party to the New Zealand Maori Council claim.
But it has similar concerns that there are unresolved and untested legal questions about the nature of Maori rights and interests in fresh water.
He says there was huge interest from iwi organisations and individuals in the public discussion over Maori interests to fresh water and how it was affecting the sale of State-owned power generators.
