Past hurts harm Tamaki redevelopment plan
A mix of optimism and scepticism is greeting the creation of a company to oversee the regeneration of Auckland’s poorer eastern suburbs.
Housing Minister Phil Heatley says the Tamaki Redevelopment Company is a joint venture between the Government and Auckland Council to turn Glen Innes, Point England and Panmure into a thriving, prosperous, attractive and self-reliant community over the next 15 to 25 years.
Tess Liew, from Ma Mau Te Wero Trust, has been researching resident’s views, says Housing New Zealand’s eviction of many of the area’s state house tenants means the new company will struggle to earn people’s trust.
